DOS Gaming Lives!

I really admire the tenacity of DOS game programmers and enthusiasts.  Found a site completely dedicated to new releases of DOS games, going back all the way to 2001 through 2017.  All kinds of games from adventure, FPS, and platforms to rogue-likes.  Even the site is made with DOS style graphics!  I think I'm gonna have to start exploring these games.  Despite how archaic they are, I bet there's something really good in there somewhere.

 Check them out!

Stranger Things Adventure Game = Win

In case you missed this one shortly after the first season of Stranger Things ended, check out the point and clickish adventure game made of it.  Pretty awesome.  And if you haven't watched the show, even if you aren't a horror fan, watch it.

Kinguin? Steam keys for the cheap.

Stumbled upon this site today, Kinguin.  Seems it's a place for merchants and people to sell and trade unused Steam keys.  Prices seems really good compared to even sale prices on Steam and GOG.

Mount and Blade is FREE on GOG for the next 15 hours.

GOG is giving away Mount and Blade for the next 15 hours.  This is one of those games that I always revisit due to it's fun replayability factor and the extreme about of mods it has.  Enjoy!

UltimaCodex Is Killing Me Today - An Ultima VII BOARD GAME!?

UltimaCodex is so much good stuff in one place, but my heart drops when I find a project on there I've never read about, only to find out it never happened.  THERE WERE PLANS FOR AN ULTIMA VII BOARD GAME!  This should have happened.  It still should happen.  Richard Garriott, please make it happen.  Here's a snapshot of the prototype board :( I am now thoroughly depressed.

I Get Excited About Ultima Stuff

VisElEchNon Dragon of the Ultima Dragons made this pretty awesome composite map from the Ultima IV-VI maps.  I really wish I could find any of my cloth Ultima maps so I could frame them...check it out.

Ultima Inspired CRPG - Akaruuk

I'm always excited to see a new Ultima-inspired game, even though many never see the light of the monitor.  This one has had a page up on Steam Greenlight since February, so hopefully that's a good sign.

Reading the comments on Steam brings up an interesting topic for me: in-game journals and tutorials. Most thinks it's a killing blow to not include an in-game quest tracker or journal.  Personally, I think it's great.  Somewhere, I have dozens of pages of notes from playing older RPGs, because it was absolutely necessary.  Hand drawn maps and other outlines and recipe books were the norm.  Games that hand feed you every detail and point you in every right direction are really taking away from your immersion and depth of play.

Will be watching this one and am ready to play as soon as it comes out.

Wizards by Avalon Hill - Play It Again On PC

Had an amazing find tonight as I was browsing abandonware.  Wizards was one of my favorite board games growing up, although I rarely got to play it, and I'm not even sure I ever finished a game.  That seems to be a trend for the favorites.  I still have an original print of it, but it's so hard to find a dedicated group of players to go through with it.  BUT, I discovered that someone made a java-driven version of it playable on the PC! Played it through once (extremely difficult to complete solo, if at all possible, due to the fortnight rules), however it can add all players.  It's definitely playable by multiple people on the same machine, and I'm betting a Skype meeting could be set up by sharing the main screen and giving control to the other players.  Download the java version and try it out! Credit to whoever "dewkid" is that seems to be the author of it.  The game doesn't include rules (and neither does the download site).  Couldn't find any online either, save for some alternate and house rules.  Enjoy!
